When people hear that I used to be a sex-obsessed maniac who used to think only about sex, and how she could more of it, they are surprised.

Especially since I am an extremely devout spiritual person now who practices yoga and meditation 4-5 hours a day. I have also been celibate for more than 4 years now. This isn't mandatory, of course, but it is something that really called to me, to recalibrate and reassess my obsession with sex, and its deleterious effect on my creativity.

I spent so much time hankering after sex and running after relationships, obsessing over it because I was afraid to do my work. I was in resistance mode, and I wasn't able to pull myself out of it. It was much easier back then to run after sex, which is such an easy high, such an easy distraction, such an easy pleasure to gain. It can be done with someone else, or on your own, with oodles of masturbation devices and tools out there.

The reason we are running away from ourselves, or trying to, is because our mind, body, and soul know that we need to do the creative work. It knows it needs to be, but fear is pulling us back. So we fall back onto sex. If we can get an orgasm, it will make us forget about everything else. We seek pleasure like a drug addict seeks his next hit.

But after a while, the hits don't work anymore. The orgasms don't satisfy anymore. Everything begins to feel empty. The more empty it feels, the more we seek further pleasures. That's where some of us discover drugs.

Thankfully, I didn't go down that path. I realized that I was on the slippery slope of being obsessed with sex, and forgetting about my creative work, my writing. I stopped. I decided to give up sex completely for a little while and to see what came up. I decided to start doing exercises to move my creative energy up to the crown. I decided to stop running away from my creativity and actually going deeper into it.

As soon as I took this step, I wrote my first novel. It wasn't the best thing I ever wrote, but after years of not writing, it was a miracle. It was my precious baby and I remember it fondly.

I started writing thousands of words a day. It was as if they were pouring out of me. I couldn't stop the flood. It was impossible to dam the flow of creativity. Thankfully, I just wrote and wrote and wrote. I had the time for it, and the energy now that I wasn't running after sex. I hibernated. I didn't see many people. I sat on my computer in my dingy apartment and wrote. Hundreds of words filled the page. My laptop's hard drive was filled with stories. I published a lot.

22 books later, I am sitting here, asking you to listen up and follow my advice. I know this path works. It doesn't mean you need to give up on sex completely as I did. I was experimenting with different things and celibacy at the time worked for me.
